Is it okay to put Gen 3 SSD in my motherboards Gen 4 pcie slots?

SN850 only running at PCIe Gen 3? can i use gen 4 ssd on gen 3 slot What's your motherboard and CPU? On the Z590 motherboards for instance, if you are using a 10th gen intel CPU the M2 slot 1 is unusable if candy blitz slot Rocket 4 ssds are fast, but still not fast enough yet to max out a PCIE Gen4 M2 slot yet Samsung 980 PRO and a couple others similar to it
